First and foremost I want to say a big thank you to all those people that took the time out to
make the night what it was, I would also like to thank the whole Miss Somali team for all the
hard work and commitment they put into making the night the best it could have been! There
were a lot of barriers, many challenges and set-backs however they have done a great job.
A big thank you to the people who supported not just me, but all the girls and the event in
general and lastly I would like to take this opportunity to thank my family and friends for being
right behind me in promoting role models within the Somali community.

It was an amazing night and to this day I still get a
lot of people asking how I
felt when I won and to be totally frank I didn't even
see it coming and
when the judges called out my name believe it or
not, I was astonished. I
really enjoyed myself and I felt I invested a lot of
time and effort as well as
money; bespoke traditional dress. The other girls
that took part in the show
were all incredible and worked just as hard as me
so it was very close,
well done to them too. It was difficult as it was
only 5 of us rather than
the auditioned 12 however, it allowed more time
for the team to dedicate to usand other aspects of
the event.
In terms of the title, it may be argued that I do things differently, but I don't feel that this title has changed me in the slightest as I feel that one of the reasons as to why I was awarded this title was because of my open mind and awareness of the problems that the Somali community face in our day to day routines. So in that aspect I will always remain the
same but at the same time I gracefully accept that having a title such as this comes with responsibility and challenges that I truly intend to rise up to.
