Brief interview with the RnB singer Morris Diamond
Some may argue and suggest he sounds like Usher, His vocals are incedible. Our performance Manager Amina had the opportunity to sit down with the RnB singer Morris Diamond whilest preparing for the event last week and here are some interesting answers on his career, his involvement in MSUK09 and what his plans are for the near future.
1. So Mr Morris Diamond for someone who hasn’t heared of you or does not know what you do, could you please tell a bit about your self? Well am a R&B/Soul/Pop Artist. I have been doing this for about 6 years on a serious level. Been dancing since I was 8. This whole music scene is in my blood. I enjoy doing this.
2. How do you like to present yourself as an artist? My main priority is to make sure everyone likes my music, whether its kids, parents, teenagers etc so therefore I don’t just write songs from previous experience, I like to write songs that a lot of other people can relate to and when they hear it "they be like -DAMN THAT’S MY SONG" - ha-ha. that’s my way of showing who I am.
3. Your performing at Miss Somali UK 2009, how do you feel about that and what can we expect? Are you looking forward to it? Oh Yea absolutely! I have heard so much about Miss Somali UK 2009 and I have seen so much about it online. As for me, I feels like it’s going to be a massive show for Miss Somali UK 2009 Promotion team, the company organising it, the contestants, all the acts involved, all the guest from different communities. I mean the whole team have put a lot of work towards promotion in many mediums; flyers, website and updates etc. There are a lot of artist performing that night; some I heard of, some I know and some I don’t know. But it will be cool to form something and put on a good show. Expectations are big that’s all I can say as rumour has it that people are travelling from America and the rest of Europe to be a part of it.
4. So what’s next for you? There is a lot going on for me right now and I am trying use this event to build on this platform for our people to recognise my work and hopefully get some support. I have an important meeting next week with G Mix who will be supporting me in producing some of the work. I have managed to exchange a few words with the previous producer of Lemar. Am trying to build a new team to help reach new hights and one of which includes a successful Promoter by the name of Fatmata Mansaray Bockari, what amazes me about her is her extensive knowledge on music and this whole industry.
5. What are your views on Somali artists and their developments into this music business? Do you think they are ready to make mark? I actually feel that there has been a major growth. I mean 6 years ago. I could have probably counted the amount of Somali artists; singers rappers-pop and even funky music. I mean K’naan showed us a great path to follow. And now you got Sweet Rush, Que Bee, Devon, DJ Basline and many more including myself and I have been working very hard and I will continue to do so. I like the fact that all these artist have pushed their way through to mainstream and have made the most of the opportunities given. I hope Miss Somali UK 2009 will open many more doors for many and all other acts on the night.
6. Where can we find your music if viewers want to hear you? http://www.myspace.com/morrisdiamond
We Look forward to seeing you on the 23rd for The First Official Miss Somali UK 2009, Just before you leave to get your self ready for the event, would you be able to give away any CDs or merchandise to our contestants and audience on the night. lool. I will defo look into that and hopefully that would build my fanbase. |
