It gives a great pleasure as organisers of The Official Miss Somali UK to congratulate you on having taken the first step in entering this prestigious and highly acclaimed event. We are accepting applicants from all over the UK; however you must be able to commute to London for the initial selection process, rehearsals, photoshoots, the launch and the actual pageant night. |
BEAUTY ALONE will NOT determine the winner of The Official Miss Somali UK beauty pageant, other attributes such as intelligence, ambition, compassion and the overall way a contestant carries themselves in representing the Somali community will be taken into account by the judges.
THE CRITERIA:
• Age: 18-26
• No height restrictions
• You don’t have to have previous pageant or modelling experience
• You have to be a UK resident
• Shall be a person whose background is not likely to bring into disrepute THE OFFICIAL MISS SOMALI UK beauty pageant, the community or any other organisations associated with them.
• The winner must be prepared to be a positive role model for the youth of the Somali community and to use every opportunity during the year of her reign to project the Somali community in a positive light.
• The eventual winner will be under contract with MSUK and must be available when needed for events, promotions etc when required by MSUK, it's sponsors and affiliates.
The Miss Somali UK pageant will have the following stages:
• Applications
• Preliminary screening and selection of finalists - based on images supplied, written information and a short interview taken by two members of the MSUK team
• Training and rehearsals - a professional choreographer will assist in all preparations
• Finals on the night which will be be decided by 5 judges (their decision is final)
AWARDS ON THE NIGHT:
• Miss Somali UK – Picked by the panel of judges
• Miss Popularity - Picked by the public and the audience on the night
• Somali Role Model of the Year 2010 - Picked by the panel of judges and the public
IMPORTANT NOTE: "We don't want you divulging ALL BEAUTY therefore we will not be asking you to model in bikinis or anything revealing" however we are planning the lavish parade of the national costumes, grace and elegance of the DIRAC competition again promoting Somali culture and tradition
PRIZES:
Several high profile UK companies with interest in the Somali community are being approached and will be associated with the 2009 Miss Somali UK including an official sponsor, sponsors of prizes & goody bags and service provider sponsors.
Prizes for Miss Somali UK 2010 include:
• £500 Cash prize
• Official crown
• Official trophy
• A dedicated page on the site
• Featured interviews on various magazines and local radio stations
• Spa and pamper treat vouchers

There will be a goody bag for all finalists and further prizes will be announced and confirmed nearer to the final. The Cash prize is conditional on all conditions being met by the winner.
Promoting Role models NOT creating supermodels
The winner of the first Miss Somali UK will act as a spokesperson, an advocate for the organisation and most significantly, a good will ambassador for various charities throughout her one year reign. There will be responsibilities and commitments, for example, volunteering to support those charities. This would very much benefit the charity, the Winner and The Miss Somali UK organisation. The WINNER must be prepared to be a positive ROLE Model for the youth of the Somali community and use every opportunity during her reign to project the Somali community in a positive light. The eventual winner will be under contract with MSUK, and must be available when needed for events, promotions etc when required by MSUK, its sponsors and affiliates. This is a massive opportunity and we hope, all involved can help us achieve our objectives or portraying the Somali community in a positive way, making people understand that there is more to the Somali community than Pirating.
Winning is important but not at all costs, please do remember what we are trying achieve, Promoting Role Models within the Somali community, building bridges with other communities, embracing the Somali culture, celebrating Somali talent.
